For as long as I can remember, I have always had stories in my head. Science fiction and horror being the first ones, then fantasy and superhero ones were added to my mental collection. Science fiction branched off into dystopian and post-apocalyptic, while the fantasy and horror melded into Gothic horror.

Television shows of the 1960’s and 1970’s such as Star Trek, Doctor Who, Space: 1999, The Starlost, Dark Shadows and The Night Stalker, were big influences in science fiction and horror, and Star Wars: A New Hope, Alien, The Planet of the Apes franchise, Witch Mountain and The Black Hole (both from Disney) and Buck Rodgers (and the subsequent TV series) were big film influences. I would be remising if I did not mention the works of the Hammer House of Horrors, Toho Studios and Universal Studios. Literary influences include J.R.R. Tolkien, H.P. Lovecraft and Alan Dean Foster. Live action and animated superhero TV shows and movies also played big roles. There are most likely more I could list, but these are the ones that initially come to mind.

Then in my first year of high school, I met a friend that introduced me to the Dungeons and Dragons table-top role playing game, and the stories in my head became worlds of their own, and I then had an interactive outlet to create and share them. I became a voracious role player, trying out a variety of RPG games, by different publishers. Dungeons and Dragons products were the largest part of my collection, but other games, such as Gamma World, Star Trek: The Roleplaying Game, Marvel Superheroes and the various World of Darkness games all began to compete for dominance on my bookshelves.

To this day, the stories I have been developing in my head, are rooted in these influences, making them more fan fiction than not. This is acceptable for developing a portfolio and showcasing what I can do, but I am working on making these stories exist in a universe of my own creation, allowing me the potential to develop an income with them. Fan fiction or not, I look forward to sharing my stories with you, and hearing what you have to say about them.
